With a saga that covers almost five thousand years, the Jewish people have had many catastrophes befall them. Jews have endured Masada, the Egyptian enslavement, the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, Kristallnacht in 1938, Haman, and the Nazis. However Jewish triumphs have superceded all of these challenges to our survival.

Shavuot commemorates the single most important moment in Jewish history -- the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. 3,300 years ago, after leaving Egypt on the night of Passover, the Jews traveled into the Sinai desert. And, in the 3,300 years since this event, Torah ideals - monotheism, justice, responsibility -- have become the moral basis for Western civilization.

This lecture will focus on Jewish triumphs and will include such joyful moments as the establishment of Jerusalem as David's capital, the building of the first temple, proclamation of the state of Israel in 1948, trial of Eichmann, the Six Day War, and the Rescue at Entebbe. It contains great movieclips, photos, and items of interest.
