Doug began performing as a pianist at age six. In his early professional musical career, he backed up various oldies performers on Hammond B-3 organ including The Coasters, Darlene Love, Chubby Checker, Gary "US" Bonds and Bobby Rydell. He performed in the Catskills, toured over fifty cities in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico with his band "Celebration," and then led another group, "Main Squeeze" on a holiday tour of over forty US Army and Air Force bases in Europe. He was also a successful designer/illustrator in corporate America for thirty years.
Most recently, Doug has returned to the Jewish music of his roots. He has appeared often at the 92nd Street "Y" as well as dozens of NY area synagogues, senior centers, JCC's, YMHA's, and health care facilities. Doug's repertoire covers the entire musical spectrum: standards, traditional, ethnic, international, big band, and music for dancing. In his Jewish programs he explains the origins of, and performs the most beloved songs in the history of Jewish music. Besides singing in Yiddish and Hebrew, he also plays accordion, clarinet, glockenspiel ( tsimbel in yiddish ), keyboards, and is a great storyteller and comedian. He now regularly performs with world famous clarinetist Sol Yaged, a protegé of Benny Goodman, and every week he entertains 150 needy people at B'nai Jeshrun Synagogue Soup Kitchen in Manhattan.
